President of Cape Verde made a statement before the match with Argentina
"We will go into the match against Argentina and Messi with the same determination and desire to win and advance to the next round."
President of Cape Verde José Maria Neves commented on the upcoming match of his national team against Argentina in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
"I hope that the Cape Verde national team will continue to play at the same level. We came to the World Cup to write our own destiny and face the reigning champions. Therefore, we will go into the match against Argentina and Messi with the same determination and desire to win and advance to the next round.
The footballers have 100% faith, 100% hope, and their jerseys will be soaked with sweat. Therefore, we have a 100% chance to defeat Argentina. In matches against strong opponents, you can both win and lose.
Nevertheless, no matter how the match with Argentina ends, we will only play for victory. Regardless of the result, we will leave the World Cup with our heads held high and a sense of mission accomplished. I believe that Cape Verde can defeat Argentina 1-0," — BBC News Africa reports, quoting Neves.
The match Argentina — Cape Verde will take place on the night of July 4, starting at one in the morning Belarusian time.
