57-year-old native of Vinnytsia sentenced for Telegram comments. She called herself "a Ukrainian from occupied Minsk"
Aksana Valvachova, who has lived in Belarus for over 30 years, was convicted under two criminal articles. The woman is now behind bars. She faced up to 12 years in prison.

Aksana Valvachova was born in Vinnytsia, Ukraine, but has lived in Belarus for over 30 years. She is now 57 years old.
Since the beginning of 2019, the woman was registered as an individual entrepreneur, and her main activity was retail trade of sausage products and ham in specialized stores in Minsk. Her business is currently in the process of liquidation.
Aksana has an active civic position and communicated extensively in political Telegram chats, especially after the full-scale war in Ukraine began in 2022. Open data indicates that law enforcement pursued her precisely for comments on the internet. The resident of Minsk was first detained in January 2024 specifically for her comments.
Valvachova called herself "a Ukrainian from occupied Minsk." The woman recounted that she hung the flag of Ukraine at her stall after the war began, until her superiors forced her to remove it.
Aksana Valvachova was sentenced in the Minsk City Court. She was found guilty under two articles of the Criminal Code of Belarus: Part 3 of Art. 361 (calls for actions aimed at harming national security) and Part 1 of Art. 368 (insulting Lukashenka).
The woman is now in a penal colony. The sentence is unknown, but Part 3 of Art. 361 provides for a penalty of 3 to 12 years in a penal colony.
