This is a new world record. The previous one belonged to Brazil, which from 1993 to 1998 did not lose in 33 official matches in a row.
The Spanish have been undefeated since March 28, 2023 — when they lost to Scotland (0:2) in the Euro 2024 qualifiers. Since then — 27 wins and 7 draws.
During this time, the team won Euro 2024 and is now confidently progressing through the World Cup bracket. In the Round of 16, the Spanish will play on July 2nd against the team that finishes second in Group J, where Argentina, Austria, Algeria, and Jordan are playing.
The standings before the last round here are as follows:
Argentina — 6, Austria — 3 (goal difference — 0), Algeria — 3 (goal difference — minus two), Jordan — 0.
Tomorrow morning, Austria and Algeria will play each other and contend for second place.
