A 36-year-old Ukrainian citizen has been detained in Poland for allegedly threatening Polish President Karol Nawrocki on social media, reports polsatnews.pl.

Police obtained material from an online conversation during which death threats were allegedly made and located the individual.

The 36-year-old Ukrainian is likely to be charged with insulting a constitutional body of Poland in connection with making threats against the president (Art. 226 of the Polish Criminal Code), police explained.

This could lead to a fine or imprisonment for up to two years.

The incident occurred amid escalating relations between Poland and Ukraine. After Volodymyr Zelenskyy named an elite special operations forces unit in honor of UPA heroes, Nawrocki stripped him of the Order of the White Eagle — the country's highest award. In response, a number of Ukrainian politicians renounced awards they had received from Poland.
