«Very Scary Movie 6» won't happen — the global hit was still pulled from Belarusian distribution. Why?
The popular black comedy «Very Scary Movie 6» was expected in Belarus in mid-June, but unexpectedly, screenings began to be postponed, and then removed from schedules. As it became known, the film was finally pulled from distribution.

«Very Scary Movie 6» is another installment in a major comedy franchise. Its films combine horror parodies with satire on major events and popular memes.
The new film was released worldwide on June 5 and grossed a decent box office — over 200 million dollars against a budget of 30 million. Enough to consider it a box office hit.
In Belarus, the film was expected a week ago, but suddenly cinemas began postponing screenings and refunding tickets. It then became known that the Ministry of Culture, for some reason, was not adding the film to the registry of approved cinema, so there was no talk of distribution. On June 22, however, some cinemas still started selling tickets for the movie, and judging by online comments, some Belarusians even managed to watch the film in cinemas.

But now tickets for «Very Scary Movie 6» can no longer be purchased. As «Nasha Niva» learned, the film was pulled from distribution across the entire country.
The probable reason for this is that the film touches upon LGBT themes. For example, it features a transgender character who transitioned, as well as a gay character. In the version that briefly made it into Belarusian cinemas, some of the jokes related to this theme were censored.
Since the beginning of 2026, amendments to the law «On the Rights of the Child» came into force in Belarus, prohibiting «the promotion of homosexual relations, gender change, and childlessness».
