The US has completed "self-defense strikes on Iran," the country's Central Command stated. It added that the American military remains on high alert.
"Forces struck Iranian air defense facilities, ground control stations, and radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz using precision munitions from US Air Force and Navy aircraft," the command said in a post on the social network X.
According to the command, the operation was "a proportionate response to recent attacks on American troops and international merchant vessels." US President Donald Trump stated that the attack was in response to an Apache helicopter being shot down in the Strait of Hormuz area.
Axios journalist Barak Ravid, citing sources, reported on the social network X that the US military conducted three waves of strikes on Iran. Local media reported that explosions occurred in the cities of Bandar Abbas, Jask, Sirik, Minab, and on Qeshm Island. According to Axios, the US struck Iranian air defense batteries and radars in the Strait of Hormuz area.
Iranian authorities stated that in response to the attack, missiles and drones were launched at American military bases in the Middle East. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claims that strikes were carried out, including, on the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain and an airbase in Jordan. The American side did not report any damage. Authorities in Bahrain and Kuwait reported repelling the attacks.
