On the night of May 24, Russian troops launched a massive strike on Ukraine, using the ballistic missile "Oreshnik". This time, the city of Bila Tserkva, located 70 kilometers south of Kyiv, was hit by hypersonic weapons.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force command, the missile was launched from the Kapustin Yar training ground in the Astrakhan region.

Russian channels claim that the strike targeted an airfield. No evidence has been provided for this, and there is no confirmation yet.
This is the third instance of Russia using the "Oreshnik" missile system. Previously, the Russian Federation struck the "Yuzhmash" plant in November 2024, and Lviv in January 2026.
The principle of operation of "Oreshnik", developed based on the RS-26 "Rubezh" project, involves dividing the warhead into 6 separate blocks, each of which releases another 6 submunitions.
As a result, 36 strike elements simultaneously impact the target.
Since the missile was used in a non-nuclear variant, the destruction is caused by the enormous kinetic force of empty metal blanks falling at a speed exceeding 12,000 km/h, which is practically impossible for modern air defense systems to intercept.
The Russian Ministry of Defense called this attack a "retaliation strike". Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted harshly to the incident, calling the Russian leadership inadequate for using strategic weapons against schools and water supply facilities, and emphasized that such actions by the Kremlin should not go unpunished by the international community.
The night attack, in which, in addition to "Oreshnik", 89 other types of missiles and 600 drones were used, claimed the lives of two people in Kyiv, and more than 50 residents of the capital were injured.
