A Belarusian woman starred in the film 'The Devil Wears Prada - 2'. She plays a 'famous actress' alongside Meryl Streep

Former Belarusian journalist Hanna Trubachova got this role thanks to her style.

In 'The Devil Wears Prada - 2', Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) experiences a career decline and a crisis in the traditional magazine business. To revitalize her publication, she asks for help from her former assistant Emily (Anne Hathaway), who holds a high position in a luxury brand group.

Former Belarusian journalist Hanna Trubachova was supposed to be one of the extras in 'The Devil Wears Prada - 2' — either a bystander or a paparazzi. But thanks to her original style, she got the role of a 'famous actress'.

But first things first. Ten years ago, Belarusian journalist Hanna Trubachova moved to the USA. From time to time, she appears as an extra in films. She shares her adventures on Facebook.

Last year, Hanna was incredibly lucky: she got a role in one of the most anticipated sequels — 'The Devil Wears Prada - 2'. Moreover, it was a role she hadn't counted on, as she wasn't part of the extras' union.

She was lucky because Hanna's everyday style is quite vibrant and unconventional. On that momentous day, she arrived at a giant studio building on the outskirts of New York to pick up an outfit for the filming.

The Belarusian woman's image (in which one could see velvet, leather, and feathers) impressed the costume designers. After the traditional "good to see you again", they consulted and brought a dress that didn't fit anyone else.

"They give me that same designer dress, which, I swear to God, really wouldn’t have fit anyone else — not just because you need to be very tall and slender, but also charismatic — not everyone can pull it off, as they say here: black, floor-length with an incredibly long train, a collar of raven feathers, and my white skin peeps through between the pieces from which the dress is sewn.

Dressed up, I walk out and immediately start looking down on everyone, turning all who disagree with me into frogs. 'It's as if I was born in this dress,' I tell the costumers. The usual procedure is to photograph the costume on the actor, but instead of protocol, improvisation begins.”

They called the operators — 'Shoot her, she's special.' Hanna got into character and received endless compliments.

As a result, Hanna was approved for the role of 'famous actress #61', who was to participate in the Met Gala scene (this is the annual charitable ball of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum in New York).

Still from the film 'The Devil Wears Prada - 2'

Here's how the Belarusian woman recalls the filming day: "There were at least five hundred people in the crowd, and the organizers were overwhelmed. But the routine was familiar: costumers, makeup, hair stylists, photos, endless waiting during breaks."

A funny situation also happened in the restroom: one of the women who was an extra hopefully asked everyone who entered if they had dental floss. She said it was her first time as an extra, and she might be lucky enough to see Meryl Streep, but her teeth weren't clean. No one had floss.

Hanna, however, came up with an original solution to the problem — she pulled out a few hairs from the hair extensions she had to attach additionally to her 'Marie Antoinette had a successful night' style coiffure.

“The lady was speechless, thanking me endlessly, and then, in addition, she received my unexpected confession: don't take yourself too seriously.”

Hanna's sister was very worried about her, dreaming that Hanna would meet Meryl Streep on set.

“And at the 14th hour of a 16-hour shift, I wrote to her that I couldn't look at Meryl Streep anymore, that she had just stumbled on the steps right next to me, and incidentally asked Mr. Tucci if they should go back to the starting point. 'Probably,' she says, 'because if you go back, you'll most likely hear that "we are wrapped," meaning "that's it, we're done," but if you don't go back, you'll keep climbing the stairs again and again to kiss the queen of the ball's knee.'”

As a result, Hanna's workday lasted 16 hours, and Meryl Streep's was 6 hours. Did the Belarusian woman feel special while filming alongside a world star? She says no.

“But, I confess, I did feel something fascinating when I was led into what you might call a 'densified' scene, where actors, fans, photographers, and journalists were already lined up along the red carpet. They put me first on it to give a silent interview. And so I stood on the top steps of the staircase, looked towards the park, and saw an incredible number of people lined up along the Central Park fence: they all came to watch the filming and didn't disperse until five in the morning while we all worked take after take. Interesting story, I think: will I ever be closer to participating in real cinema...?”

Back home from filming, Hanna learned that the role the producers had entrusted to her required union membership (for extras who are part of it, working conditions are much better). For the first time, Hanna received a check with an astounding amount — she says that after this, she will never again in her life stammer about a 16-hour shift being tiring.

And the Belarusian woman's agent wrote that an application had already been submitted for her acceptance into that very union.

“Just so you understand: union actors get much more, they have the green light everywhere first, better roles and prospects.”

Now Hanna considers that role of 'famous actress #61' fateful — after it, her career took off.

“Recently I was on set, where a two-time Oscar winner did my makeup. 'I remember you from 'The Devil Wears Prada - 2',' said Judy.”

Hanna advises everyone to always be themselves — because that is where the power lies.

And indeed, who knows if she would have gotten a role alongside a Hollywood star if she had come for the costume not in her usual extravagant image, but in modest jeans and a jumper.

"пачынаю глядзець звысоку, а ўсіх нязгодных са мной ператвараць у жаб"

Магла б у мусарні служыць. Дастаткова паставіць яе на высокія абцасы, і нават пер'я не трэба.

Дзіўна, якія нездаровыя цяпер стандарты жаночых паводзінаў.
