Retired Corrupt Minister Sells Respectable Cottage Near Drazdy. Asking for $2 Million
In 2018, Uladzimir Patupchyk was dismissed from his ministerial post for corruption: Lukashenka accused him of facilitating illegal family business. But the official's property in an elite area of the capital remained. True, now his neighbors look down on him — in the literal sense of the word.

Uladzimir Patupchyk received land for building a house in 2012 — at that time he was a senator, and he received the post of Minister of Energy a year later.

The plot was given in a water protection zone behind Minsk-Arena, on Miastrauskaya Street. Patupchyk turned out to be a neighbor to a group of bankers led by Piotr Prakapovich and Pavel Kalaour. The exiled Kyrgyz president Kurmanbek Bakiyev was also building nearby.
When registering the house documents, Patupchyk assured the registrar that he built the cottage with his own money, without involving a preferential loan.
The cadastral value of those 14 ares of land he received was $225 thousand.
Now Patupchyk is trying to sell elite real estate — for $2 million
On a plot of 14 ares, a house of 280 square meters and a guest house of 70 square meters have been built.
On the first floor of the main house — there is a spacious kitchen combined with a huge living room. There is also an office here.
Thanks to the photos on the real estate website, we can see how the minister's family lived. All design solutions are from the mid-2010s.
On the second floor there are four bedrooms. The master bedroom, about 22 square meters, has its own bathroom (over 16 square meters) and two wardrobes (6 square meters each).
The three other bedrooms have more modest sizes — 19, 15, and 13 square meters. The bathroom for them is shared.
The largest room, probably, once belonged to his son Siarhei — this is hinted at by the sports complex on one of the walls. By the way, a few years ago, the young man, who at that time held the position of Deputy General Director for Economics at "Belarusneft", was detained for political reasons and sentenced to administrative arrest for several days.
Patupchyk's daughter, it seems, got a room in Barbie colors — acidic pink walls and wallpaper with large flowers are striking.
The smallest bedroom is probably for guests — there isn't even a bed, just a sofa.
A laundry room is also located on this floor.
The advertisement emphasizes: the house was built for personal residence, so all nuances for comfort were taken into account.
The guest house has a terrace with a fireplace, a kitchen with a living room, a toilet, a shower, and a sauna.
It is also noted that the two houses occupy an area of no more than 5 ares, so the plot can be divided, and another cottage can be built.
The plot features landscape design. Decorative and fruit plants have been planted. An automatic irrigation system has been installed throughout the plot, as well as on the adjacent street-side territory.
It is noteworthy that when Patupchyk first received the land, there was only low-rise construction around. Now, right behind the elite cottage, a 26-story building has been erected. Its residents can observe, even without binoculars, how the minister spends his time in his house. This towering building also cut Patupchyk off from the Drazdy reservoir, which is about 400 meters away.
Uladzimir Patupchyk was born in 1958 in Svietlahorsk. He graduated from the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute (1980) and the Russian Academy of Public Administration under the President of Russia (2002).
From 1980 to 1984, he worked at the Mozyr CHP, Svietlahorsk CHP, and at "Gomelenergo". From 1984 to 1990 — in the Svietlahorsk City Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus. From 1990 to 1998 — Deputy Chairman of the Svietlahorsk Council of People's Deputies, Deputy Mayor of Svietlahorsk. From 1998 to 2001 — Chairman of the Homiel Regional Executive Committee, in 2001 — Mayor of Mozyr, from 2001 to 2004 — Vice-Governor of the Homiel region. From 2004 to 2006 — Assistant to the President (Inspector for Minsk). From 2006 to 2009 — Minister of Labor and Social Protection, from 2009 to 2010 — Deputy Prime Minister. From 2011 to 2012 — Deputy Speaker of the Council of the Republic. From 2013 to 2018 — Minister of Energy.
