To the fighters in the dugouts who stopped the russo-fascist plague. Thanks to them and only them, we can celebrate today.
To the prisoners. They are the heroes of our time, may they be released soon. And may people of our nation never again be a commodity.
To the thousands upon thousands of people who are under house arrest and therefore cannot raise glasses with us.
To all who are separated, divided — by barbed wire, walls, borders, to those who grieve alone at the table today.
Ales Bialiatski said that after his release, he was struck by the exceptional dignity with which Belarusians endured terrible trials.
We are different, you are different, they are different. We are right in different ways and wrong in different ways. But we are all people, and we have an equal right to happiness, to freedom, the right to live as we wish, to build, to raise, to love.
Our toast today — to those who are far from us, who are not with us.
