The tragedy happened on Saturday at a homestead in the village of Mikalaeva.

As the child's mother recounted, while at the homestead, she last saw her son around 13:00. After turning away for a few minutes to prepare food over the fire, she noticed that the boy was no longer beside her.
At 16:58, during a river survey on an inflatable boat, a local resident spotted the boy's body on the water's surface two kilometers downstream from the homestead (4 meters from the bank, the river depth at the discovery site was 2 meters).
