Sergei Brylin has been appointed head coach of the Belarus national ice hockey team. This decision was made by the executive committee of the Ice Hockey Federation of the Republic of Belarus at a meeting on August 20.
The 52-year-old Russian specialist will combine his work with the Belarusian national team with the position of head coach of Minsk "Dinamo". He took charge of the club on July 17, 2026, signing a three-season contract. Earlier, representatives of Belarusian hockey noted that combining the positions of head coach of the KHL Minsk club and the national team had already yielded positive results.
Sergei Brylin has extensive experience in American hockey. He spent 27 years in the NHL club system of the "New Jersey Devils" - first as a player, and then as a coach. As a player, Brylin played 13 seasons in the NHL and won the Stanley Cup three times - in 1995, 2000, and 2003.
After finishing his playing career, he worked on the coaching staff of the "New Jersey Devils", serving as a consultant, assistant in the farm club, and the main team. For the last four years, Brylin was part of the coaching staff of the main "Devils" team. In January 2024, he was inducted into the New Jersey Devils Hall of Fame.
Brylin also has experience playing for the Russian national team. He won a bronze medal at the 2007 World Championship, as well as bronze at the 1994 World Junior Championship and the 1992 European Youth Championship. In the KHL, as a player, he played for SKA and Novokuznetsk "Metallurg".
