In Belarus, a father can also take parental leave to care for a child until they reach the age of three. The employer has no right to refuse such leave, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection reminded .
To arrange the leave for himself, the father first needs to obtain a certificate from the mother's workplace stating that she is not on parental leave and is not receiving the corresponding benefit. The certificate must also indicate that the mother has returned to work.
After this, the father submits an application for parental leave to his employer. The application must be accompanied by a passport, the child's birth certificate, a certificate of family composition, and the certificate from the mother's workplace.
The three-year leave can be shared between the parents. For example, the mother can take the first two years, and the father can take the last year.
For the period of such leave, the father is assigned a monthly state benefit. If the father starts receiving it, the mother stops receiving the benefit from the end of the month in which she submitted an application to stop payments.
In addition, not only parents, but also working grandparents, have the right to parental leave until the child is three years old and to the corresponding benefit.
