Several communication towers began to be built in the uninhabited exclusion zone in the Homel region

In the Homel region, in the exclusion zone, and also in settlements directly near the border with Ukraine, the construction of new LTE (4G) mobile communication towers has begun. In particular, they are appearing on the territory of the Polesia State Radiation-Ecological Reserve — this is a territory where there is practically no permanent life due to the consequences of the Chernobyl catastrophe, writes "Flagstock".

Information about these plans emerged thanks to documents from the beCloud company, which is involved in the development of the communication network in Belarus. This company is partly owned by the state and partly by a Russian investor. According to these data, construction is currently at an early stage (about 5%), and full commissioning is planned for early 2027.

This raises a logical question: why build expensive infrastructure in places where there are almost no people? It is known that the construction of one such tower can cost tens of thousands of dollars, and this is without taking into account additional costs for electricity supply and other communications.

One possible answer is the strengthening of border infrastructure. There is information that the Belarusian authorities plan to modernize the border with Ukraine along its entire length. Various technical means will be used for this: cameras, sensors, surveillance systems. For all this to work, stable and fast communication is necessary, which the new towers can provide.

In addition, significant budget funds are already being allocated for these purposes — millions of rubles for the creation of power supply systems for border infrastructure. The project is designed for several years, with the main works in 2027.

In parallel, new border outposts are being built on the border with Ukraine. This direction remains relevant for people trying to illegally cross the border.

There is another version of the use of such towers: they can be used for military purposes, for example, to control drones used in attacks. In particular, we are talking about "Shahed" type drones, which Russia uses in the war against Ukraine.
