Doctors in Belarus are particularly wary of the current flu season. This was reported by Nikita Salavei, an infectious disease doctor at the Minsk City Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital.

According to Nikita Salavei, sublineage K of influenza A virus (H3N2), known as "Hong Kong flu," is currently widespread. This is not an entirely new virus, but a modified version of an already known flu that causes seasonal outbreaks annually.
The doctor explains that the influenza virus constantly mutates, and when many changes accumulate, a separate variant emerges. Sublineage K has about ten mutations in the protein recognized by the immune system.
H3N2 previously often led to a more severe course of the disease, and this year, in some countries, the flu season started earlier than usual. Children, people with chronic illnesses, and the elderly particularly suffer from the disease, which causes concern among medical professionals.
At the same time, the doctor emphasizes that vaccination remains effective. H3N2 components are included in vaccines, and even with viral changes, vaccination reduces the risk of severe illness and complications.
If a person falls ill, Nikita Salavei advises against "walking off" the flu and to stay home if symptoms appear. It is important to observe respiratory hygiene — ventilate rooms, wear a mask in public places, cover your mouth when coughing and sneezing, and wash your hands frequently.
Additionally, physical exertion should be limited, enough fluids should be drunk throughout the day, and antipyretics should be taken for high fever (above 38-38.5°C). It is especially important for people in risk groups to consult a doctor in a timely manner.
