The United States will send a specialized group of Marines to the Baltic Sea region to support NATO's Baltic Sentry mission. This was stated in a statement by the American military department.
Approximately four dozen Marines, assigned to the 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion of the 2nd Marine Division, based in North Carolina, will operate jointly with Finland's Coastal Brigade, the statement said.
The mission's goal will be observation and reconnaissance aimed at "enhancing maritime domain awareness to protect critical underwater infrastructure and support overall security in the region."
