Tsikhanouskaya: The 2020 protest was crushed with brutal force and terror. But not the community itself
Today Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya delivered a lecture "Building a Country from Exile" at the University of Economics in Krakow. The meeting was attended by students and representatives of the university, her press service reports .

After the lecture, a lengthy discussion took place on the future of Belarus, democratic institutions, the challenges of exile, and preparing for change.
"Unfortunately, the protest was crushed with brutal force and terror. But not the community itself. The events of 2020 changed our people. Once people feel freedom, they will never give it up. Even today, despite repression and exile, our civil society continues to work. Yes, we don't have a state — it was seized by Lukashenka and Putin. That's why we had to create a parallel one — Belarus 2.0," Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya said.
She said that when asked what helps her stay connected and relevant to the people of Belarus, she says: "God bless the internet."
"And I am sincerely convinced of this. Thanks to the internet, we maintain contact with people on the ground. People read the same news. And they can safely participate in political life," Tsikhanouskaya says.
The democratic leader answered the question of how to help now.
"We need more contacts and more scholarships for students. We need to train a new Belarusian elite. We need people with European education and values, with new ideas and faith in democracy. I ask you not to lose sight of Belarus, to develop joint projects and initiatives, and to organize events. If you are a student or a researcher, you can conduct research and write academic papers dedicated to Belarus. We ask you to be our allies and walk with us on the path to freedom," she said.
