Belarusian MMA fighter sentenced to four years in Poland for beating

The District Court of Kalisz, a Polish city, sentenced a Belarusian man who practiced martial arts and participated in MMA tournaments to four years in prison for severely beating a man, Most reports, citing the regional resource Jarocinska.pl.
The incident took place on July 21, 2024. Near a pub in the city of Jarocin, Greater Poland Voivodeship, the Belarusian began striking the victim's head with his hands. A subsequent forensic medical examination determined that such injuries could have been life-threatening.
The Belarusian was identified through surveillance camera footage and witness testimonies. During interrogation, the Belarusian denied guilt and presented his version of events. The prosecution, which handled the case, did not specify what it entailed but noted that the man's defense statements contradicted camera recordings and other facts established during the investigation.
The man was charged with causing severe bodily harm. On June 11, the court found the Belarusian guilty and sentenced him to four years of imprisonment. The period of pre-trial detention will be credited towards the sentence. The Belarusian is also obliged to pay the victim 50,000 zlotys [12,000 euros].
The conviction has not yet entered into force, and currently, a pre-trial detention measure is not applied to the man. It was canceled by a court decision on September 16, 2025.
