In Laos, five gold miners who spent 10 days in a flooded cave were rescued. Searches for two more are ongoing. The people were trapped due to an unexpected flood caused by heavy rain, Reuters reports .

Rescuers found them on Wednesday — the people were sitting, huddled together, on a rocky ledge approximately 300 meters from the cave entrance. However, they could not be extracted at that time, so they were provided with water, food, and foil thermal blankets to keep warm while remaining inside, The Guardian reported.
Searches for the remaining two people are ongoing. International teams of divers are navigating through murky water in narrow passages with poor visibility, trying to determine their location. The water, which surged in due to the sudden flood, brought with it sand and gravel, resulting in very poor visibility in the water. “You’re diving in coffee,” one of the rescuers described the situation. Some of the water was being pumped out, but this is also risky as it could cause collapses.
It is believed that the men entered the cave last week in search of gold ore.
