As stated in the press release, the truck with Lithuanian registration was traveling from France in transit and underwent a thorough check during its final entry into the EU.
An analysis of the documents immediately showed a discrepancy. The cargo, declared as "other articles of iron and steel", was in fact what should be classified as waste.
The carrier, however, was not registered in the relevant environmental registry, as required by the rules.
The vehicle and 24 tons of zinc ash in 13 containers, valued at over 40,000 euros, were preventively seized. The driver's license was also temporarily confiscated.
In the days following the truck's detention, our compatriot paid a fine of 6,500 euros.
