"A thousand dollars a month is realistic." How much do medical professionals earn in Belarus now?

According to data announced by the trade union, the average salary for doctors in 2025 was 4006 rubles (about 3445 rubles net), and for mid-level medical staff — 2075 rubles (about 1785 rubles net).

Compared to 2024, the average salary for doctors increased by 12.1%, and for mid-level medical staff — by 15.5%.

What do vacancies show?

Looking at job vacancies, it's hard to find a gross salary of 4000 rubles. A significant number of specialists work 1.25 or 1.5 rates, which noticeably affects the final salary of medical professionals.

At the same time, there are plenty of vacancies where doctors are offered salaries significantly higher than the industry average, even for a single rate.

Some of the highest-paid vacancies are in Slutsk and Salihorsk, where private medical centers "Zhadaem Zdorovya" (We Wish Health) are ready to pay 8,000 rubles to an ultrasound diagnostics doctor who must have at least three years of work experience and a first qualification category.

The medical center is also looking for a nurse, for whom they are willing to pay 1800-2000 rubles.

Salaries of about 5000 rubles are offered to deputy chief doctors at the 32nd polyclinic in Minsk and at the Vileyka district hospital.

Relatively high salaries are also offered to anesthesiologists and surgeons.

For example, the emergency medical care hospital in Grodno is looking for a surgeon (plastic surgeon) for whom they are willing to pay 4 to 6 thousand per month.

In the agrotown of Babinichy, near Vitebsk, they are looking for a head of the dermatological department with a salary of 3400-3500 rubles. The candidate must have at least five years of experience.

Regular specialists are usually paid no more than 2000-2500 rubles per rate.

For example, an ophthalmologist at the second hospital in Minsk is offered 2100-2500 rubles.

A dentist at the same hospital can expect 3000 rubles, and a rehabilitologist working 0.5 rate — 1200-1400 rubles.

A surgeon at Polyclinic No. 3 in Babruysk, working 0.75 rate, will earn around 2000 rubles.

General practitioners (formerly called district therapists) earn slightly more than narrow specialists. Such a specialist in the same Babruysk polyclinic is offered 2400 to 3000 rubles for a full rate.

A general practitioner at Polyclinic No. 6 in Brest is offered 2840 rubles per rate.

What do the doctors themselves say?

A general practitioner, working 1.5 rates, says that for the last year, she has consistently received at least 3500 rubles net.

"In polyclinics, general practitioners traditionally have slightly higher salaries than narrow specialists. They might earn approximately 1800-2000 rubles, while we get around 2300-2400. Plus, almost everyone takes on 1.5 or 1.25 rates, which results in a decent salary by Belarusian standards," says the doctor.

Another interviewee works as a cardiologist, also on 1.5 rates. The doctor says they earn 3 to 4 thousand rubles per month.

"When students come, they are paid extra for working with them, so in such months, the salary can be up to 4 thousand. In regular months, it's around 3200-3300 rubles," the specialist admits.

A doctor specializing in ultrasound diagnostics, who, like other interviewees, works 1.5 rates, earns about 3000 rubles net.

All medical professionals interviewed noted that salaries for medical workers have indeed increased in recent years, so earning a thousand dollars a month or more is entirely realistic if desired.

Because of this, the stated official figures for average salaries do not cause them doubt.

"In addition to many working more than a full rate, there are anesthesiologists and surgeons who, besides higher salaries per rate, have extra shifts. Experienced doctors can also work part-time in private medical centers, where an hour of work is paid better. And chief doctors, their deputies, and other managerial positions are generally paid well. At least by Belarusian standards," says one of the interviewed medical professionals.
