"Life is too short." Viera Paliakova-Makei told what brings her joy in life after her husband's death

"After the events that tragically occurred in my life, I realized: you need to close gestalts."

Actress and director of the Youth Theater, Viera Paliakova-Makei, shared how tragic events in her personal life changed her attitude towards money and people. After the sudden death of her husband — Belarusian Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makei — she concluded that instead of saving for "another fur coat," one should invest in emotions.

"After certain events that tragically occurred in my life, I realized that life is so short that one needs to close gestalts. You can sit and save money... But how much does a person need? Happy is the one who has enough. My mom always told me that," she says.

Viera Paliakova noted that she is provided with housing thanks to her parents and husband, so she sees no point in accumulating for more material things.

"And in fact, I have everything. My parents took care to ensure I had housing. Thanks to my husband, he also made sure that both I and the children... That we live normally, in an apartment. We have a dacha, we have a car. Well, what else? Save up for another fur coat, buy it?" she says.

The actress admits that shopping and purchases always help her lift her spirits.

— "In this regard, Istanbul is like a paradise for a shopaholic. No, in fact, shopping is very joyful, truly. Sometimes there are moments when I feel bad. I have a friend who has her own showroom. I call her and say: 'Well, I feel so bad, I'll come over now and treat myself.' This lifts any woman's mood when she suddenly buys herself a beautiful outfit, even just a blouse, a scarf," noted Viera Paliakova.

She says that she used to not like being alone, but now the situation has changed.

"Before, I couldn't stand loneliness, but now I can't stand people anymore. And now I need to go somewhere far away, to a very new place."
