Russia announces successful launch of Sarmat missile

Sergey Karakaev, commander of Russia's Strategic Missile Forces, reported the successful launch of the 'Sarmat' to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to Vladimir Putin, 'Sarmat' is the most powerful missile system in the world. The total power of the warhead delivered by this missile is four times greater than any analogues, and its range of application, due to its suborbital trajectory, exceeds 35 thousand kilometers.

By the end of this year, as the Russian president promises, 'Sarmat' will be put on combat duty.

In addition, work on the 'Poseidon' and 'Burevestnik' complexes is also in its final stages, Putin stated.

On May 6, the Russian Ministry of Defense warned about missile tests at the Kura testing range in Kamchatka. In the Ust-Kamchatka district, from May 6 to May 10, people and any equipment were prohibited, noted Pavel Podvig, a senior researcher at the UN Institute for Disarmament Research.

'Sarmat' is a new-generation Russian intercontinental missile designed to replace the Soviet R-36M2 'Voevoda' (also known as Satan in NATO classification). It is intended for carrying nuclear warheads over very long distances and is considered one of the key components of Russia's nuclear strategy.

However, the test program faced serious problems. In 2024, a failed launch was reported, when the missile fell almost immediately after launch, and other incidents, including explosions during tests, were subsequently recorded. Since previous attempts did not result in a successful flight, this raised doubts about the system's readiness for operation.

Теперь даёшь запуск главнокомандующего Путена В. В. в ракете "Сармат" куда-нибудь на 35 тысяч километров в любом направлении.
