The Pentagon reported that US spending on the war against Iran has already approached $29 billion. American officials stated this during budget hearings in Congress.

Speaking at the hearings were US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Kane, and Pentagon Chief Financial Officer Jules Hearst. They discussed the new US military budget for 2027, which is planned to be at the level of $1.5 trillion.
Previously, in April, the Pentagon estimated the cost of the war at $25 billion, but now the sum has increased to almost $29 billion. According to agency representatives, the increase in expenses is related to equipment repair and replacement, ammunition usage, and general operational costs.
During the hearings, lawmakers demanded more precise accountability from the US administration regarding the real costs and goals of the war. However, Hegseth did not name a deadline for when Congress would receive a full financial report. He only noted that the White House would request additional funding separately from the main military budget.
The issue of American ammunition stockpiles was discussed separately. Some Democratic congressmen argue that due to the war, stockpiles of Tomahawk missiles, Patriot systems, and other advanced weapons have significantly decreased, and their replenishment could take years. In their opinion, this could weaken US readiness for a potential conflict with China.
The Secretary of Defense, however, dismissed these concerns and stated that the ammunition situation is not critical, and the US has sufficient necessary resources.
