Belarus plans to tighten requirements for private tutors

The country intends to change the rules for private tutors who teach children. To provide services in this area, it will be necessary to be included in a special register.

The Ministry of Education has already prepared a draft resolution that provides for the creation of such a database. The document has been put up for public discussion, Myfin writes.

What is planned to be changed

The new rules are intended to be introduced not for all tutors, but specifically for individuals engaged in independent professional activities in teaching children.

To officially engage in such work, teachers will need to register in a special registry.

The Department for Quality Control of Education will form and maintain the database.

At the same time, it is planned to make it as transparent as possible: information from the register will be publicly available on the website of the Ministry of Education.

The project separately specifies categories of people who will not be able to get into the register of private tutors.

Firstly, these are individuals against whom a conviction for extremist crimes has entered into force. This restriction will apply even after the criminal record is expunged or cleared.

Secondly, the database will not include specialists without relevant education who provide services as a defectologist, speech therapist, typhlopedagogue, surdopedagogue, or oligophrenopedagogue.

When will the new rules come into force?

Before adopting the document, the authorities decided to hold a public discussion of the project. Comments and suggestions can be left on a special topic on the Belarusian Legal Forum from May 22 to June 1.

If the resolution is adopted, the new rules will come into effect three months after the official publication of the document.
