The incident occurred near Druskininkai, approximately 200 meters from the border. Border guards detected the man using technical surveillance means and promptly responded to the scene. There, they detained a 44-year-old Polish citizen.
The man had homemade ladders with him, which he presumably intended to use to overcome the engineering barriers at the border. He also had a bicycle, a sleeping bag, tools, and personal belongings.

It is separately noted that envelopes with cash — US dollars and Polish zlotys — were found among the Pole's belongings. The total amount is estimated at almost 60 thousand euros.
The detainee explained that he allegedly planned to cross the fence and enter the territory of Belarus. However, the exact motives for his actions are not officially disclosed.
The Lithuanian Border Service initiated a criminal case regarding the attempted illegal border crossing and possible money smuggling. The court chose to remand the man in custody for one month.
