White-Red-White flag — with them. Kalinouski Regiment released a continuation of their film-diary

Fighters in the basement prepare for an assault — and hear on the radio how a vehicle of an adjacent unit exploded on a mine.

The Kalinouski Regiment released a continuation of the documentary project «A Week at the Front». The second episode covers events from the fifth to the seventh day of Belarusian volunteers' stay at positions in the Zaporizhzhia region.

Documentary footage from the «Zaporizhzhia Grey Zone» episode introduces the life of the Kalinouski Regiment's combat group in a basement — the only place where one can feel relatively safe.

That morning, a replacement takes place: experienced fighter Vayar leaves the position due to the aftermath of a concussion and health problems, and in his place comes Kazhan — a young volunteer from Vitebsk, a former history student who also worked as a medic.

To provide light to the basement and charge the radios, the group commander with the call sign Salam goes «up» — into the destroyed building. He fuels the generator and shows a firing position with a German grenade launcher HK GMG. The building wall was specially partially dismantled to have a view of enemy positions, which are only a kilometer away.

«To shoot without getting «burned» (exposed), we had to destroy the wall, because we are in direct sight of the Russians. That is, they are a kilometer from us, and they can already wave at us from there. In good weather, if you have binoculars or a rangefinder, you'll see someone there. (…) The position has proven itself very well during its operation; we weren't «burned» (exposed) for two weeks of active work. I think this is a success,» — says the commander.

The evening in the basement turns into an intellectual discussion. The fighters argue about the figure of Kastus Kalinouski.

The next day passes under the sign of a dangerous sortie into the «grey zone». In thick fog, the fighters try to find a downed Ukrainian "Vampir" bomber drone. However, due to the risk of stepping onto unverified paths, the group decides to return. Later, the drone will be found by a group that entered the basement after rotation.

Upon returning, Salam begins to dig an additional exit from the basement. He explains this by safety concerns: the main exit faces directly towards the enemy, and in case of a building collapse, the group would be trapped.

The day ends with another political debate about the crisis of modern democracy and the inevitability of global conflicts.

Turning Point

The climax of the film is the seventh day — the time of the planned assault. The group's task is to support the infantry during active operations. Kazhan records the start of the operation: a column of armored vehicles advances for a breakthrough. Tension reaches its peak when the radio in the basement starts working.

Through dialogues on the radio, news of a tragedy becomes known: one of the vehicles of adjacent units exploded on a mine. Reports of a killed person («200») and wounded («300») are heard. The assault is called off because the coordination system is disrupted. The fighters in the basement remain on standby while a difficult evacuation of the wounded takes place under enemy fire. Only by the end of the day does confirmation arrive that everyone was successfully evacuated, including retrieving the body of the fallen comrade.

«The assault ended before it could even begin. In the conditions of modern warfare — this is routine,» — comments narrator Kos on the moment of the comrades' evacuation.

At the end, the group's departure from the position is shown. The fighters carefully remove the white-red-white flag from the basement wall — a symbol that accompanied them throughout that week. Ahead for the warriors are a short rest, hot food, and a bath. The next group will come to replace them and continue holding the front. And so it goes in a circle, until someone manages to find the enemy's weak spot.
