Melnikayte Street in Minsk to be closed for two years: "Alesya" and "Mariya" need to be retrieved
The center of Minsk is facing another transport challenge. In early June, through traffic on Melnikayte Street will be completely closed for several years to complete the connection of the third line tunnels and retrieve the tunnel boring machines.

As reported by the "Minsk-Novosti" agency from an on-site meeting with Minsk City Executive Committee chairman Vladimir Kukharau, the closure is necessary for the dismantling of two tunnel boring machines and the construction of a connecting junction with the existing metro line. Through traffic on Melnikayte will be stopped for approximately two years, leaving local residents only access to courtyards.
It is likely that this refers only to the section from the Central District administration building to the intersection of Melnikayte Street with Pobediteley Avenue, where they previously considered building the "Profsoyuznaya" station, as metro tunnels with turn-back dead ends were laid under the rest of the street during the construction of the first phase of the Zelenaluzhskaya line.
Nothing is reported about the closure of Zaslauskaya and Dzimitrava streets, which adjoin Melnikayte Street in this section.
We remind you that the "Profsoyuznaya" station was excluded from the construction plans for the Zelenaluzhskaya line in August last year, when authorities explained this decision by low expected passenger traffic and the proximity of neighboring stations "Niamiha" and "Frunzenskaya", which are theoretically capable of handling the load independently.
Currently, the "Alesya" tunnel boring machine, which began constructing the left transfer tunnel of the third line in June 2025 (likely a typo, should be 2015 or earlier based on context implying completion), is located at the intersection of Maksima Bahdanovicha Street and Masherava Avenue. Its technical maintenance is being completed, after which "Alesya" will return to work.
In parallel, a new Chinese complex named "Mariya" is being prepared for operation. Its installation is nearing completion in the pit on Bahdanovicha, and in late May, it will start digging the second tunnel towards "Yubileynaya Ploshcha". It is precisely for the dismantling of these two machines from underground and the connection of new tunnels with old ones that the closure of the street in the capital's center was required.
