Belarusian elected to the Council of the International Ice Hockey Federation
Belarusian Siarhei Hancharou, who this year contended for the position of head of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), has been elected to the Council of this organization. His candidacy was supported by participants of the vote at the semi-annual IIHF Congress, reports Hockey.by.

For Hancharou, this is not his first experience working in IIHF structures. From 2016 to 2021, he was a member of the Council and headed the Federation's Judicial Committee. Prior to this, from 2008 to 2016, Hancharou was part of the Competition Committee. In 2021, he also ran for the position of IIHF President.
In the Ice Hockey Federation of Belarus, Hancharou worked as Secretary General and Deputy Chairman.
Following Hancharou's election, Belarus gained its representative in the IIHF Council — the governing body of the international federation, which makes key decisions related to the development of world ice hockey. Meanwhile, Belarusian teams have been suspended from participating in international competitions under the IIHF's auspices since 2022.
