Products and goods have grades. Plants have varieties. This is an important feature of the logic of the Belarusian language.

I saw questions on social media regarding the article "Every morning a basin of tomatoes." What kind of Belarusian variety "Zorka" is so praised", so I will write the answers here too. Why "variety" here, and not "grade"?
Grade is a class, a category of some goods by quality, prices, etc. First grade flour. Highest grade tea. Best grade cloth. Candies of different grades.
However, when it comes to a variety of a plant that differs from other plants of the same species, it's a variety. Wheat varieties. Tomato varieties. Old Belarusian apple varieties: Shtrifel, Zalatoy Ranet, Pepin Litoŭski.
When a tomato variety is called a "grade" - this is one of those particularly annoying language errors for me. In the Belarusian language, words do not have the same field of meanings as in Russian. This is subtle. Each language is a separate system, with its own logic.
For example, in Russian, they say "сильный дождь" (strong rain), "сильный мороз" (strong frost). In Belarusian, it's more natural to say: "вялікі дождж" (big rain), "вялікі мароз" (big frost).
As for "varieties" and "grades", this is an example of the paradoxical Russification of the language's "logic" by those who tend to conflate everything "just to avoid sounding Russian".
Products and goods have grades. Plants have varieties.
Check the meanings of words using dictionaries, primarily the academic Explanatory Dictionary of the Belarusian Language.

яшчэ прыклады :
па расейску кажуць «приступили к ремонту» и «я правильно поступил»,
а ў беларускай мове такіх паняццяў няма, бо
«пачалі рамонт» и «я правільна зрабіў»
Дзякуй за артыкул, больш бы такіх. Тады б мо' сама рэдакцыя называла праліў Гармузскім, а калайдэр - Гадронным, не калькуючы словы з расейскай мовы і захоўваючы натуральнае "Г" у пачатку гэтых словаў :)
