Belarusian defenseman for the National Hockey League club "Chicago Blackhawks", Artyom Levshunov, fears conscription into the army if he returns to Belarus, stated The Athletic journalist Scott Powers.

20-year-old Levshunov has been living in the USA since 2022. Before moving overseas, he played hockey in the schools of Zhlobin's "Metallurg" and Minsk's "Dinamo", and also played for the base club of the Belarusian junior national team. In 2024, Levshunov was selected by "Chicago" in the first round of the NHL draft as the second overall pick.
“There is a fear that if he returns, he could be conscripted into the Belarusian army, where military service is mandatory for men aged 18 to 27. He hopes to return someday. He believes he might be granted a deferment due to playing in the NHL,” Powers wrote.
