During a search expedition in the Dubrovno district, fragments of a Soviet Yak-1 fighter jet and the remains of five Red Army soldiers, whose identities have not yet been established, were found, reported the publication «Vitebskiye Novosti».

The searches were conducted by soldiers of the 52nd separate specialized search battalion of the Ministry of Defense together with the Minsk search detachment «Batskaushchyna». The excavation site was determined based on the recollections of residents from the villages of Kazly and Panizovye. According to the searchers, the servicemen died during the autumn offensive of 1943.
During the excavations, helmets, a mess tin, two rifles, as well as fragments of ammunition and military uniforms were found. However, no death medallions or other personal identification items were found, therefore, it is currently impossible to identify the deceased.
The most significant find was the remains of a Soviet Yak-1 fighter jet. The aircraft crashed into the ground at high speed and was heavily damaged, however, searchers managed to recover the main structural elements, as well as its armament — two machine gun mounts and one cannon. Now specialists are looking for factory numbers on the parts to ascertain the aircraft's combat history through the Ministry of Defense archive and, possibly, identify its last pilot.
In addition, more than 150 explosive items were retrieved from the excavation site and handed over to sappers for defusal.
All discovered artifacts are temporarily stored by the police. After the completion of the necessary procedures, they will be transferred to the Dubrovno Historical and Local Lore Museum.
