Bus driver to be prosecuted for the death of an elderly couple in Chausy
In Chausy, a 42-year-old city bus driver will be prosecuted, accused of violating traffic rules and vehicle operation regulations, which inadvertently led to the death of two people, the General Prosecutor's Office reported .

The tragedy occurred on May 16, 2026, at the bus station in Chausy. After completing the route, the driver exited the bus, but while talking on his mobile phone, he did not turn off the engine and did not engage the parking brake.
Because of this, the bus began to move on its own and ran over a married couple — a man born in 1959 and a woman born in 1956. Both died on the spot from their injuries.
The criminal case against the driver has already been forwarded to the court by the Mogilev region prosecutor's office. His actions are qualified under Part 3 of Article 317 of the Criminal Code of Belarus.
For the duration of the trial, the man is under a travel ban and an obligation of proper conduct.
