A public discussion of an interesting project will start in the administration of the Leninsky district these days. The discussion concerns the reconstruction of the long-abandoned public toilet on the Svislach embankment. The building was once intended to be transformed into a fish restaurant, but residents strongly objected. This time, there are plans to open a sports equipment rental point here, writes Realt.by.
The disused public toilet is located at Chyrvonayaarmeyskaya Street, 34B. The location is excellent. Nearby are the Park of the 40th Anniversary of the Great October, the "Beijing" hotel, the main city cycle path, and the Svislach river embankment.
The empty green building, with an area of 45 square meters, has been repeatedly put up for auction and attempts have been made to integrate it into the urban environment. Back in the 2010s, there were plans to open a Porto del Mare restaurant here. The district administration was not against it, but the project was blocked by residents of nearby houses who feared large-scale tree felling. Later, there were plans to organize a cafe in the building, but that also didn't work out.
Last year, the former toilet finally found a new investor. The building was sold at auction for 91,000 rubles.
The new owner plans to reconstruct the abandoned building into an equipment rental point: bicycles, roller skis, roller skates, and other sports equipment. At the same time, the functions of a public toilet will also be preserved here. The old building will be thoroughly rebuilt, retaining part of the brick walls and rubble masonry.
As a result of all transformations, the area of the complex will increase from 45 to 102 square meters. The rental point will feature a sloping roof and impressive stained-glass windows.
The project can be viewed on the official website of the Leninsky district administration. Public discussions will be held from July 29 to August 12. Comments and suggestions marked "public discussion" are accepted only during this period at the address: 220006, Minsk, Mayakovskogo st., 83 (or by email: [email protected]). The results of the public discussion will be summarized at a meeting of the Architectural and Urban Planning Council under the Chief Architect of the city of Minsk.
