Pope Leo XIV on Wednesday, on the hundredth anniversary of Antoni Gaudí's death, consecrated the Jesus Christ tower in the architect's main creation, Barcelona's Sagrada Família temple (Sagrada Família), writes the BBC.
During his visit to Spain, the head of the Roman Catholic Church also celebrated mass in the famous Barcelona cathedral, the construction of which has been ongoing for over 100 years and is expected to be completed soon.

Including the cross, the height of the Jesus Christ tower — the highest point of the temple — is 172.5 meters. This makes the Sagrada Família the tallest church in the world.
The first stone of the Sagrada Família temple was laid in 1882, and the following year, its construction was headed by the then still young architect Antoni Gaudí.

In the following years, the temple was gradually completed, and the process was managed by the Sagrada Família Foundation, which receives funds from ticket sales and private donors.
Construction workers will continue to work on completing the temple over the next decade, including creating new decorative elements and sculptures, and building a staircase to the main entrance of the structure.
