State TV showed a gaunt monk who was handed over to Poland along with Pochobut
On April 28, an exchange of prisoners "five for five" took place at the Belarusian-Polish border. Belarus handed over journalist Andrzej Poczobut, monk Grzegorz Hawel, and Tomasz Bieroza, convicted on espionage charges, to Poland. Russia, as part of the exchange, handed over two Moldovan intelligence officers, detained in Russia, to Moldova.
Among those handed over by Poland were Aleksandr Belan, former deputy head of Moldova's information and security service, convicted in Moldova for treason; Belarusian Uladzislau Nadzeika, detained in Poland on espionage charges; Russian archaeologist Aleksandr Butyagin; Russian citizen Nina Popova, detained in Moldova; and Kazakh military attaché Anuar Bakibay, who worked in Kyiv and spied for Russia.
In a Sunday report on STB, footage was shown of Polish political prisoners being read the decision about their release.
Grzegorz Hawel was detained on September 4, 2025. Hawel had with him "Order on the organization of preparation and participation in the joint strategic exercise 'West-2025'". This, as stated on state TV, was an 8-page printout with the "Secret" classification. This document was allegedly handed to him a few minutes before his detention. The monk was not convicted; he was held in a pre-trial detention center.
