Owner of an Orsha cafe was involved in a terrible accident with an elk — spent a week in intensive care and remembered nothing about it

In early June, Anton Maiseeu from Orsha and his wife accidentally hit an elk. The car was completely destroyed, but the passengers are happy to have survived at all.

The accident happened on June 5 at 11 PM in Krupski district on the Brest — Minsk — Russian border highway. An elk suddenly ran out of the forest, and Maiseeu and his wife accidentally hit it in their Opel. Both Anton and his wife were taken from the scene of the accident to the hospital.

Now Maiseeu has recounted the accident a bit on Threads:

"A week has passed since what happened. I was in the intensive care unit then and learned about what happened from a close person who visited me.

They told me what events led to me lying here and why. Because I don't remember the elk, nor where it came from — nothing about the moment of the accident. As the medics say, I immediately lost consciousness."

In early July, Anton's Opel — or rather, what was left of the car — was delivered to him by a tow truck. The man writes that the approximate cost of restoration is at least 13,000 rubles. Buying a similar new car would not be much more expensive, so Anton has not yet decided whether he will restore the Opel. He has already opened a fundraiser for the car and thanks everyone who came to his aid.

Anton is the owner of the Orsha cafe Smile Coffee. In the comments, people have already offered to support his place. Besides business, the man participates in races, triathlon competitions, and judo tournaments among veterans.

Anton and his wife are grateful that they survived at all. By the way, they were not fined for hitting the elk. 10 km before the accident site, Anton passed a "Wild Animals" road sign, but it had a distance of 5.5 km indicated, so the sign was no longer valid at the place where the accident occurred.

As for insurance, Anton had a union insurance policy with "Belgosstrakh" to be able to drive on Russian and Belarusian roads. He has already been told that the insurance will not cover the damage to the car, but they may compensate for the cost of treatment.
