Januškevič Publishing House shared statistics for the first half of 2026. They are sad
"Januškevič" Publishing House, which also operates the "Knihauka" physical bookstore and Knihauka.com online bookstore in Warsaw, shared its book sales statistics on the very first day of the new half-year. It assesses the results of both its book distribution and publishing activities not very positively.

In the first half of 2026, 2829 orders were fulfilled by the platforms associated with the publishing house. It is noted that this is 28 percent less than in the second half of 2025.
Most books were ordered in Poland, Germany came in second place, and Lithuania in third.
1st place — Gabriel García Márquez "Autumn of the Patriarch" — 342 copies sold for 16755 zlotys.
2nd place — Volume 3 of "Silva Rerum" by Kristina Sabaliauskaitė — 164 copies for 10900 zlotys. The new release came out in January 2026.
3rd place — Volume 4 of "Silva Rerum" by Kristina Sabaliauskaitė — 157 copies for 10373 zlotys.
4th place — "Dogs of Europe" — 154 copies for 10628 zlotys. This book has been consistently sold in the bookstore for five years.
5th place — Volume 1 of "Silva Rerum" by Kristina Sabaliauskaitė — 151 copies for 9832 zlotys. The book has been sold since October 2025.
The next top five looks like this:
6. Kamila Tsien "Next Stop — Death"
7. Jorge Luis Borges "Works. Volume I"
8. Kamila Tsien "I Will Come For You in August"
9. J.R.R. Tolkien "The Lord of the Rings. The Fellowship of the Ring"
10. J.R.R. Tolkien "The Lord of the Rings. The Return of the King".
The closest book from "Pfliaumbaum" publishing house is 11th place ("A Change of Places" by Yuhas Kalada), "Lohvinau" publishing house — 25th place ("No One Will Grant Salvation Willingly" by Siarhei Piasecki), "Gutenberg" publishing house — 28th place ("The Path of Petty Scoundrels" by Yeva Viazhnaviec), "Miane Niama" publishing house — 60th place ("Blue House" by Alena Piatrovich).
If we consider the share of publishing houses in the bookstore's sales by the number of copies sold, the situation is as follows:
- "Januškevič" — 51 %;
- "Viasna" — 10 %;
- "Pfliaumbaum" — 7.5 %;
- "Gutenberg" — 7 %;
- "Knihauka" — 6.5 %
- "Lohvinau" — 5 %;
- "Kamunikat" — 3%;
- "Miane Niama" — 1.5 %.
Regarding publishing activities, according to Andrei Januškevič, the main focus is now on reducing costs, retaining the existing audience, and selling books that have already been published. In this way, the publishing house hopes to accumulate funds for releasing new editions, but so far, they have not fully succeeded in doing so.
In six months, the "Januškevič" publishing house released only three new books, two of which were published without the financial involvement of the publishing house itself. Simultaneously, emphasis was placed on distributing books from other Belarusian publishing houses using the previously established infrastructure, as well as selling through international marketplaces.
According to the publishing house's assessment, the new strategy is currently yielding only partial results. In the last six months, not a single new Belarusian book has become a true bestseller. This applies to fiction, as well as translated and documentary publications.
The publishing house notes that a general decrease in interest in books and a reduction in the number of readers are becoming increasingly noticeable. In their opinion, this corresponds to a general crisis of Belarusian communities. To attract new buyers, advertising on social networks and more active engagement with the audience are being used, but without in-demand new releases, it is difficult to significantly change the situation.
The report separately notes the impact of the publishing house being recognized as "extremist." In the four months following this, the company claims that the number of orders from Belarus significantly decreased, as many buyers are afraid to purchase books. This, in turn, leads to the accumulation of large warehouse stocks, creating additional financial difficulties.
