Minsk resident grew a cannabis bush in the forest. And it all started with parrot food
A criminal case has been sent to court against a 39-year-old Minsk resident, who is accused of illegal acquisition, transportation, and storage of narcotic drugs without intent to sell, writes the "Minsk-Novosti" agency.

According to the case materials, in the summer of 2025, the man bought food for his parrot. He claims that the feed contained seeds of Cannabis genus plants. After that, he tried to germinate some of the seeds at home, but without success.
Later, the man sowed the remaining seeds in a forest belt in the Minsk district. After some time, he returned to the spot and found a cannabis bush about three meters tall. He dug up the plant, brought it home, plucked the leaves, and left them to dry.
During a search, drug control officers found more than 100 grams of ready-to-use marijuana at his home, as well as smoking paraphernalia. A criminal case was subsequently initiated.
According to the prosecutor's office, the accused had no prior convictions and is not officially employed. He was charged under Part 1 of Art. 328 of the Criminal Code of Belarus. The sanction for this article provides for punishment of up to five years of imprisonment.
The man fully admitted guilt and expressed remorse. During the investigation, he was placed under a measure of restraint in the form of a recognizance not to leave and good behavior.
