Investigation established the identity of the murderer of the Polish soldier killed on the Belarusian border. The suspect may be hiding in Belarus

Polish investigators have identified the migrant who, in May 2024, fatally stabbed soldier Mateusz Sitek through the fence on the Polish-Belarusian border. According to unofficial information from RMF FM radio, the suspect is currently located in Belarus.
In December, a request was sent to Minsk for the arrest of the suspect and his extradition to Poland. To date, the Belarusian authorities have not responded to this request. Due to the lack of a response, the investigation was suspended in May.
It is unlikely that Belarus will extradite this person to Poland, people familiar with the investigation told an RMF FM correspondent. According to the sources, if the man were sent to Poland, he would be questioned during interrogation, among other things, about how he entered Belarus.
In November 2024, information emerged that the attacker was able to escape to Western Europe and was seen in France and Belgium.
There was also information that a Moroccan citizen killed the Polish soldier. This was reported by a migrant woman who illegally crossed the Belarusian-Polish border and applied for international protection. Polish services have not officially commented on this information.
21-year-old Mateusz Sitek, a soldier of the 1st Warsaw Armored Brigade, died on June 6 at the Military Medical Institute in Warsaw from injuries sustained on May 28 during his service.
At that time, a group of approximately 50 migrants stormed the border. They behaved aggressively, throwing tree branches, sticks, and stones at border guards. One of them had a knife attached to a stick. With it, he stabbed the Polish soldier through the fence. A fellow soldier began to administer first aid, but the migrants attacked her as well. Sitek was hospitalized, but despite the doctors' efforts, he could not be saved. The moment of the fatal injury was captured by surveillance cameras, which allowed for the creation of a portrait of the killer and his identification with the help of other migrants.
