"Taxi driver dropped me off because I changed payment method." Transport Inspectorate put an end to the conflict

It all happened on the night of April 23. As the girl recounts, around 03:00 she flew from Moscow to Minsk and called a car through the "Yandex Go" app. On the way, she changed the payment method. The driver did not like this, writes Onliner.by.

— I won't take you. I was driving for cash. I needed cash," says the man in the video, filmed by the passenger. "— Why should I give in to you? (…) Can you do anything you want, or what? Tolerate it? (…) I just said I wouldn't take you. (…) Then you put some incomprehensible likes, I don't need that. (…) I'm the director, I'll decide where to work and what to do. You'll tell your husband, boyfriend, or whoever you want what to do, but not me. (…) I'll drive you to Minsk — and get out.

Further in the recording, the man is seen taking the passenger's suitcase from the trunk. She remains at the entrance to Minsk "by the highway on the roadside".

Driver's Comment

The driver's version of events, who refused to continue the trip.

— I picked up the client at the airport. Loaded the suitcase, she got in, we're driving calmly," the man recounts. "— I know I have the 'Cash' fare set. I specifically set such a fare because I needed money. To refuel there... Well, it doesn't matter, right?

I'm driving calmly, the girl is talking on the phone. I'm almost reaching point B, 3-4 kilometers short. And then it pops up: "Payment made for cashless." I ask the girl: "Girl, why did you switch to cashless when I practically drove you all the way? I need cash." She replies: "I don't have money." I ask: "How do you not have money? You were getting into a taxi. You clearly saw that the driver would take you for cash. Why are you doing this to me? (…) Maybe you don't have that money on cashless?" (…) I say: "Then we drive there, I drop you off, and that's it."

And she tells me, "Take me to the city, drop me off at the stop, and that's it." I reply: "Okay." I complete this order, drop her off at the stop, hand over the suitcase. That's it, I left. She wished me, naturally, a good journey. I'm driving, I see that this money has arrived for me. And then suddenly there's no money in my account. I think: "What kind of nonsense is this?" I started calling support. They ask me: "Please tell us how this incident happened to you." I recount everything — that's it.

The driver claims: he dropped the girl off already within the city limits (past the "Minsk" sign at the entrance), in Uruchcha, at a bus stop.

— If you practically drove the girl to the address (3-4 kilometers remained), why didn't you complete the trip to point B?

— I just needed cash, understand? I specifically set cash. And the client — anyone — sees this. One could have said: "Sir, I don't have money, can we sort this out differently somehow?" But she didn't say anything. And "Yandex" also blocked me to clarify the circumstances.

Full video of the conflict

The girl, who was dropped off by the driver, published the full video of the conflict with the taxi driver. She clarified: initially the driver stopped on the highway. After a short verbal altercation and the question of whether the driver was really ready to leave a young girl on the road, he still drove her to a bus stop.

The girl in the video explained: she really had no cash, but she thought of transferring the required amount to the driver's card. But after changing the payment in the app, she could no longer "undo" everything, because the service does not allow such manipulations.

At that moment, the girl proposes finding a compromise, but the parties do not reach an agreement.

"I'll teach you a couple of times: you won't do this again, you'll ask. You should have thought ahead," says the driver in the video. At one point, the girl starts crying: "What did I do to you?" In response, the driver insists on his point: "I need cash."

How was the driver punished?

The Transport Inspectorate also got involved in the investigation. The driver, along with the director of the car park (although in the video the man claims he is "the director himself"), were summoned to the TI the day after the incident. At the meeting, the driver did not admit guilt. The following week, he was served a summons to be held accountable.

As reported, his presence in the Register of Passenger Road Transport in Irregular Communications will be suspended due to the absence of video recording from the cabin, meaning he will temporarily be unable to work legally.

The Transport Inspectorate emphasized: a passenger is not prohibited from changing the payment method. In this case, the driver will be held accountable for an unjustified refusal to transport.
