Bas-reliefs appeared on the building of the new National Historical Museum. What's on them?

Six bas-reliefs will appear on the facade of the new historical museum on Arlouskaya Street in Minsk. Only two have taken their places so far. The third is in the process of installation. The height of the bas-reliefs is 17 meters, writes Onliner.by.

The weight is not even announced, but you can imagine this power: they are made of bronze.

They are produced by an entire team of authors at the 'Sculpture Factory' facilities: only there are workshops with more or less suitable ceiling height (and even that is not enough - all bas-reliefs consist of parts). The process of creating each masterpiece is long and painstaking. First, the figures are molded from clay, then a plaster mold is taken from the clay model, and only then is this mold sent to the foundry to be cast in bronze.

The museum's bas-reliefs are a 'collection' of Belarusian images familiar to everyone since childhood. About fifty portrait figures are planned. The compositions stand on granite pedestals.

The first completed 'installations' are called 'Prehistoric Period' and 'Ancient Rus'.

— We face an ultra-complex task. Any museum visitor, approaching the facade, will delve into the deep history of our country. Each 'page' consists of two main parts: the lower block is dedicated to iconic historical figures who glorified their era, and the upper part features narrative bas-reliefs dedicated to a specific era and its main events. Almost half a year is allotted for each 'page' according to the technological cycle, — said Konstantin Kostichenko, head of the Department of Sculpture at the Belarusian State Academy of Arts, on ONT TV channel.

The installation of the bas-reliefs is proceeding quite quickly. The pedestals are already ready for all compositions. It is probable that by mid-May, all bronze panels will be viewable (for now — through the fence).
