68-year-old Mikhail Gutseriev is a major Russian entrepreneur of Ingush origin, the main owner of the Safmar industrial and financial group. He is among the richest people in Russia, having built his empire on oil, coal, real estate, and retail.

For a long time, his main asset was the oil company Russneft, which he founded after working for the state-owned Slavneft.

For Belarus, his figure is significant due to his close ties with the Lukashenka regime and the implementation of large-scale investment projects. It was his company Slavkali that was involved in the construction of the Nezhin Mining and Processing Plant in the Lyuban district, although he eventually had to abandon this asset. Gutseriev also invested in the construction of hotels, a terminal at the airport, and other real estate objects in Minsk.

Due to his support for the Belarusian regime, the entrepreneur fell under EU and UK sanctions after the events of 2020. As a result of sanction pressure, he was forced to formally transfer part of his assets to family members or partners.

In addition to business, Gutseriev is known as an active poet and songwriter, writing lyrics for many stars of Russian pop music.
