17 migrants identified themselves as citizens of Afghanistan. Only 3 of them had passports from that country; the others had no documents. Another migrant told border guards that he was a citizen of Sri Lanka but also had no documents, writes Delfi.lt.
For all 18 detainees, as is always done, an individual assessment was carried out. During the assessment, border guards determined that there was no threat to the foreigners. After reviewing all circumstances, it was decided not to allow these migrants into Lithuania and to return them to Belarus in accordance with the law.
Near the place where the foreigners were detained on the border with Belarus, border guards stopped an Audi A6 car with Lithuanian license plates. The driver was a 41-year-old Ukrainian citizen, accompanied by a 33-year-old Ukrainian citizen.
According to preliminary data, these individuals, who were legally in Lithuania, arrived to pick up 7 migrants who had entered the country by crawling. The Ukrainian citizens were detained by border guards.
