Trump instructed U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to deliver a personal message to Pope Leo XIV.
“Tell the Pope very politely, very respectfully, that Iran cannot have nuclear weapons. Therefore, if he defends them, also tell the Pope that Iran killed 42,000 innocent unarmed protesters. Tell this to the Pope,” Donald Trump said.
The Pontiff has repeatedly criticized U.S. methods of warfare against Iran.
Marco Rubio is heading to the Vatican soon.
