Speaking at the Lithuanian-Finnish business forum in Vilnius, Alexander Stubb noted that it is important for Washington to maintain a military presence in Europe, as it is here, he believes, that the main threat to the US lies. According to him, a significant part of Russia's nuclear arsenal is located on the Kola Peninsula, not far from the Finnish border.
The Finnish president also stated that these weapons are allegedly aimed at major American cities, including New York, Washington, and Los Angeles.
He emphasized that there is a big difference between political rhetoric and real actions, and therefore, in his opinion, the US will remain in the alliance.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, in turn, called on NATO countries to maintain unity and called the alliance the strongest military organization in history.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg reports that the US recently canceled the previously planned deployment of about four thousand American troops to Poland. Earlier, Donald Trump had also stated the possibility of reducing the American military presence in Europe and criticized allies for insufficient defense spending.
