Human Rights Center "Viasna" Opened an Additional Office in Warsaw

The Human Rights Center "Viasna" will now also conduct permanent work from Warsaw, where most of its team has relocated. Previously, "Viasna"'s office was only in Vilnius. This was announced by the head of the organization, Ales Bialiatski, at a ceremony in honor of "Viasna"'s 30th anniversary, which took place on April 21st at the Museum of Free Belarus in Warsaw, according to "Zerkalo".

Ales Bialiatski noted that the last five years, which he and several of his colleagues spent in prison, and during which the organization had to operate from abroad, were very difficult, but "Viasna" managed to survive; moreover, many new people joined, and a whole new generation of "Viasna activists" emerged.

Now, according to him, the team is dispersed across various countries, some part remained in Vilnius, but most of them are now working from Warsaw.

"With this meeting today, we are effectively launching the permanent systematic work of the Human Rights Center "Viasna" in Warsaw, in Poland. A certain part of Viasna activists also work in Bialystok. We believe that our work will be, as before, both important and useful for our Belarusian people. And we are very grateful to the Polish authorities, who have created conditions for Belarusian political refugees to continue their work for the benefit of Belarus here and to do so effectively," said the head of the organization.
