Uladzimir Monzul, deputy head of a department at the National Archive, fell victim to repression.

Uladzimir Monzul is 36 years old. He is from Minsk, graduated from Minsk Linguistic Gymnasium and Lyceum №2. After school, he entered the Faculty of History at BSU, graduating in 2011 from the Department of Ancient World and Middle Ages History.
Later, Monzul completed a master's degree (2012) and postgraduate studies (2016), writing more than 20 scientific papers. His scientific interests covered the history of Ancient Rome – he researched the civil-legal status of Rome's Italian allies, the activities of the Gracchi brothers, and political struggle in the late Republic era. Another major topic was the history of Soviet Belarus: Monzul studied the daily life of Minsk residents in 1944-1953, the USSR State Quality Mark, plans for building nuclear power plants in Soviet Belarus, and even the status of Muslim communities in the BSSR.
Since 2017, Monzul worked at the National Archive, where he later became deputy head of the information retrieval systems department and was recognized as the best archivist in Belarus in 2020. In his free time, he enjoys quizzes, which he attended with a company of colleagues.
On October 19, 2020, Uladzimir made a political denunciation to the police, reporting a leaflet calling for an all-Belarusian strike, which he found on the bulletin board in the entrance of a house on Ales Bachyla Street. The consequences of his action are unknown.
Last year, the Brest Regional Court convicted the archivist under parts 1 and 2 of Article 361-4 of the Criminal Code ("assisting extremist activity"), as well as part 1 of Article 130 ("inciting hatred"). The verdict has already entered into force.
Monzul was sentenced to home confinement ("home chemistry").
The essence of the charges, as well as the verdict, are not precisely known. It is also known that after March 2025, the man was dismissed from the National Archive.
