Zelenskyy: If we want to ruin the country, we can move towards elections
The President of Ukraine commented on the possibility of holding elections during the war.
According to him, they could "ruin the country" and cause a split in society. He spoke about this during a conversation with journalists, writes «Suspilne».
“We have already been pushed towards elections during such a war from various sides. Approximately a year ago, there was such a wave. My position was clear – if partners offer us specific conditions under which elections can be held safely, legitimately, and democratically in Ukraine – with the participation of servicemen, in frontline territories, abroad, where millions of our citizens have fled to escape the war, safely – meaning without strikes and shelling – then let's discuss this,” Zelenskyy said.
Then, according to him, none of the Western partners presented specific proposals that would guarantee security during the elections. Zelenskyy added that this is impossible as long as Putin "does not want to agree to any ceasefire options".
“I believe that during such a war, elections in general pose great risks. Elections right now are a tsunami for the state that will split Ukraine. Therefore, my strategy is to lead the country to the end of the war and preserve an independent and sovereign state. And I am fulfilling it,” Zelenskyy added.
