Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposes to use the funds of Russian businessman Roman Abramovich from the sale of London football club "Chelsea" to strengthen Ukrainian air defense, writes the BBC with reference to The Guardian.

In an interview with the publication, Zelenskyy stated that he discussed with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer the fate of 2.4 billion pounds received from the sale of the club.

According to Zelenskyy, part of these funds could be directed to purchase additional anti-missile defense systems for Ukraine from the USA.

After Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the British government allowed Abramovich, against whom sanctions were imposed for ties with Putin, to sell "Chelsea" on the condition that the funds received would be transferred to charitable organizations helping victims of the war in Ukraine.

After the sale of the club, the money was transferred to a special bank account and frozen until their transfer to the victims in Ukraine. However, the fate of these funds remains the subject of a legal dispute.

Abramovich refuses to sign an agreement for their transfer and, as a counter-move, demands to stop investigations against him and unblock his other assets. British authorities threaten the Russian businessman with legal action.

Упэўнены, што Абрамовіч за гэта будзе яму ўдзячны.
